Feel the Wind at Your Back With Bay City Bike

March 14, 2024 By CityPASS

As any biking fan knows, nothing feels more exhilarating than zipping down bike paths, going all out on a flat stretch of road, or even moving seamlessly alongside cars in an urban setting. Biking and enjoying the sun warming your shoulders and the heady rush of a smooth ride is not only a great form of exercise, but also a terrific way to do some sightseeing without the hassle of sitting in traffic or finding parking. With Bay City Bike, you don't even need to own your own bike!

Bay City Bike is your one-stop shop for reliable bike rentals in San Francisco. Conquer San Francisco's rolling hills with a hybrid or electric bike, or make a day of it by exploring the Golden Gate Bridge and beyond on a performance bike. It's all within your reach at Bay City Bike.

Where to Bike in San Francisco

While San Francisco's colossal hills can seem intimidating to the average biker, there are plenty of options for biking that don't involve (too much) huffing up massive inclines. The Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito tour is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but it also has very manageable ascents. Traveling across this man-made wonder, you'll be more than 200 feet above the glittering Pacific Ocean with San Francisco behind you and Hawk Hill in the distance.

Pro tip: The east sidewalk is shared with pedestrians so it's ideal for more casual riders, but the west has outcroppings perfect for a time out to snap a windblown selfie. While it's California, it's still San Francisco and winds can get pretty fierce, so it's wise to wear layers, regardless of the time of year.

Biking in Golden Gate Park

Biking in Golden Gate Park is another fun option for cyclo-tourists. Dotted with grassy meadows and tranquil lakes, Golden Gate Park is a superb place to spend a few hours effortlessly gliding along its seven miles of paved trails. With several museums within easy biking distance, cycling around in the park provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy both the outdoors and soak up some local culture. If you bike there on a Sunday, you'll even get to take advantage of a car-free stretch of John F. Kennedy Drive all the way down to Stanyan Street.

Bike on the coastal, Great Highway of San Francisco from Friday at noon to Sunday sunset- as it becomes closed to cars during this time! What a fabulous way to see the SF Ocean beach and the actual edge of the western United States.

Pro tip: No matter what season, always bring layers to San Francisco. Weather changes rapidly from neighborhood to neighborhood, it can be cold in summer and warm and sunny in Fall !

Don't leave anyone out- upgrade to E bikes to take the pressure off someone who hasn't biked in a while !"

San Fran Bike Tours

Bay City Bike also offers guided San Francisco bike tours that cover a few of the most popular regions of the city. Choose from a downtown tour that exposes you to the street arts and culture of San Francisco or more nature-oriented tours that take you across the Golden Gate Bridge or into Golden Gate Park. Bay City Bike even offers bike tours paired with visits to the most famous prison in the world: Alcatraz!
