Dive Into Imagination At The Florida Aquarium
January 3, 2020 By CityPASS
With the ocean covering over two-thirds of the Earth, it comes as no surprise that hundreds of thousands of creatures populate its murky depths. From the crystalline waters of the Caribbean to the icy Arctic, the incredible diversity of the life it hosts is astounding. And thanks to the Florida Aquarium, guests can experience the full ecosystem of the sea without going underwater! Prepare to be truly amazed by the rich diversity of the animal life on display; you’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for all the creatures that spend their lives underwater.
Animal Habitat Exhibits at the Florida Aquarium
Now’s your chance to see wetlands up close or gaze at a vibrant coral reef without getting wet. The Florida Aquarium offers ample opportunities to admire aquatic residents (ranging from fresh to saltwater) from all over the world.
Start your journey at the No Bones Zone, where you’ll get to touch spineless creatures like anemones, sea cucumbers, and sea stars. After that, head over to Waves of Wonder to let your thoughts drift aimlessly along with the undulating motions of moon jellies. Take a peek at the minuscule sea dragons and horses that rule the roost in the Coral Reef exhibit. Finally, top off your time at the aquarium with a stop at Journey to Madagascar, where you can catch a glimpse of exotic coral reef fish, a giant clam, and even enter a tree full of hissing cockroaches (if you dare).
Make sure to check the official Florida Aquarium website to learn about exhibits, experiences, and special events.
Get Wet at the Florida Aquarium Splash Pad
Younger visitors will go nuts for this outdoor water play zone designed especially for them. They can dig for buried treasure in the sandbox, dance in the misty spray zones, and even clamber up a water-friendly jungle gym. It’s the perfect opportunity for kids (and parents!) to enjoy the Florida sunshine without succumbing to the heat.
Catch a Flick at the 4-D Theater
Movie buffs and animal lovers alike will be thrilled with the 4-D theater located inside the Florida Aquarium. You’ll feel like you’re behind the camera watching the action play out in real life in this epic sensory experience, as bubbles, scents, water mist, and even snow appear as if from nowhere during the movies.
Your next 3-D movie viewing will feel dated in comparison! Tickets for the 4-D theater are included with admission to the Florida Aquarium, and the 15-minute movies on rotation are listed on the official website.
Seasonal Events at the Florida Aquarium
While every day is a special day for visitors at the Florida Aquarium, there are also seasonal events you can take advantage of to amp up the fun factor. Kids can meet Santa and play in real snow during winter holidays, and in past years, the Florida Aquarium has even hosted a rollicking New Year’s Eve party, Aqua Eve! Check the events page for more details on upcoming events.
Florida Aquarium Hours
The Florida Aquarium is open 363 days a year, every day except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Check the website for the Florida Aquarium’s hours before you visit as there may be an event that could impact them.
