October 11, 2022 By CityPASS

No matter how much you feel like you know a city, there's something about seeing it from above that makes you appreciate its beauty even more.

Whether you're planning a vacation to one or more major cities in North America or want to get to know your home a little better, consider visiting one of the most scenic observation decks in the United States and Canada.

North America's Leading Observation Decks

Consider using CityPASS® tickets to save when you visit North America's most popular observation decks.

See New York From an Iconic Landmark, the Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is a must-see for any traveler interested in enjoying a good view. Tripadvisor named the Empire State Building 2022's top attraction in the United States and third in the world, so if you're on the fence about visiting this iconic building on your trip to NYC, make it a priority.

Once the tallest building in the world, the Empire State Building is now the fourth tallest building in New York City, although it remains one of the city's most popular attractions.

Visitors can enjoy not one but two observation decks. The first is the outdoor deck on the 86th floor that features city views of Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and more. The second observation deck offers views for miles past the city limits and is located on the 102nd floor.

Empire State Building guests will enjoy its restaurants, museum exhibits, and more.

Take in the Pacific Northwest From Seattle's Space Needle

One of the most distinct-looking observation towers in the U.S., the Space Needle defines the Seattle skyline and has impressive views highlighting the spectacular mountains surrounding the city.

Visitors to the Space Needle can dine and have drinks at the Loupe Lounge, a rotating, glass-bottomed restaurant roughly 500 feet above the city.

Those less inclined to sit and stay for a while can instead visit the Space Needle's 520-foot "top house," which is situated at the very top of the building and includes both an outdoor and indoor observation deck with panoramic views.

Discover Toronto From CN Tower, the Tallest Observation Tower in North America

CN Tower is one of North America's most interactive observation towers, and you can spend a day curating an experience at this incredible skyscraper.

Whether you walk along the glass floors of the observation tower's 346-meter-high (1,146 feet) main observation deck or climb an additional 33 stories to the Skypod, you won't find better views of Toronto.

In addition to the observation decks, visitors can dine at the rotating 360 Restaurant, which makes a full rotation every 72 minutes, or take their chances with the EdgeWalk, which allows them to walk hands-free along the outside of the tower, attached to only a harness.

Experience a 360-Degree View of New York at Top of the Rock

With an unparalleled view of Central Park, Top of the Rock offers visitors the chance to see every side of New York City from its three indoor and outdoor observation deck levels.

Top of the Rock is one of New York's most popular attractions and features more than just a beautiful observation deck. In addition to sweeping views of the entire city, guests can enjoy the Mezzanine Exhibit, multiple Swarovski creations, and the Sky Shuttle.

Spot 4 States at Once on Top of the 442-Meters Tall Willis Tower

If you find yourself in Chicago, visiting Skydeck Chicago at Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) is an absolute must. This unique tower has incredible views of Chicago and allows you to see four states (Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan) from the observation deck!

When visiting the Skydeck, take a step out onto the Ledge — a glass box that sticks out of the side of the building at roughly 1,350 feet high — for the perfect photo op.

At 110 stories tall, the Willis Tower is the second highest building in North America and features the highest viewing area available to the public in the United States.

Peer Down the Magnificent Mile and Other City Streets From 360 Chicago

The Magnificent Mile is one of the most famous areas of downtown Chicago, and you can get stunning views of the neighborhood and more from 360 Chicago, located on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Building. 360 Chicago features panoramic views of the city in every direction from its 17,000-square-foot observation deck.

360 Chicago is easily one of the coolest observation decks in North America because you can not only relax with a drink and enjoy the views but also take a thrill ride while you're there. To truly get an aerial view of the Magnificent Mile, take a ride on TILT, an optional ride at 360 Chicago that extends riders away from the building, allowing them to look straight down on the city streets!

Observe Incredible Views of the Dallas Skyline From Reunion Tower

One of the most beautiful freestanding observation towers from the outside, the Reunion Tower offers even better views from the inside. Visitors to the Reunion Tower's GeO-Deck can enjoy both the indoor and outdoor observatory decks and are sure to appreciate the full circle panoramic views from nearly 500 feet in the air.

The Reunion Tower prioritizes experience and offers everything from wine tasting to special events. Guests even get a free digital photo after visiting the GeO-Deck.
