Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Shines Bright in NYC

The 2012 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree was the tree that almost wasn’t. Until recently, the approximately 80-year old Norway Spruce lived an unassuming life in the driveway of Joe Balku of Flanders, New Jersey. It was only by chance (and a missed turn) that the eagle-eyed team who, each year, choose the lucky twig to grace the Rockefeller Center space ended up spotting it on Balku’s property in the first place. read more »

New York City: Come For a Visit

I paid a mid-November visit to the bruised Big Apple and was surprised how quickly it had bounced back after the super storm, Hurricane Sandy, had battered the city just two weeks earlier. It must be that old-fashioned “can’t-keep-them-down” New York City spirit we often hear about because, by all signs, NYC was totally back in business and as bustling as ever. read more »

New York is famed for tall buildings and expansive skylines, but come autumn there’s one more reason to tilt your head up toward the heavens: the canopy of blush-bursting trees that dot the skies of this delightful city with an explosion of color. Tips on Tipping: What Are Your Tipping Tendencies?

Last year, getting out of a cab in Kyoto, I paid my fare and tried to give the driver a tip. His face winced as though I had insulted him and, to my surprise, he insisted on giving my change. All of it. The same happened with the bellman who helped me with my bags at the hotel. Looking curiously at the yen I pressed into his palm, he asked, “This is for me?” read more »

An English Girl's View of New York City

Women all around the world have undoubtedly been drawn to the glamour and ultimate lifestyle that New York City brings to many of our favourite female film characters: the romance between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in Sleepless in Seattle, the success of career-driven Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30, the raunchy adventures of Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly and obviously the alluring lifestyle of the entire Sex and The City cast. read more »

Traveling with a Teen in NYC

Longing for some uninterrupted time with our only child, my husband and I agreed that we needed a family vacation. Bribing is not necessarily the best parenting practice. However, the opportunities to travel with our insanely busy college-age son, Weston, are dwindling. So we made him an offer he couldn’t refuse–an all expense-paid trip to New York City. read more »
