What to Know as Disneyland Reopens

June 15, 2021 By CityPASS

Magic is back in Southern California! After a year-long shutdown, Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park began a phased reopening in late April to California residents. It’s now open to out-of-state and out-of-country visitors as of June 15. The anticipation is high and there are new guidelines, requirements and operational changes to be aware of, so we rounded up a few key pieces of information.

Some Restrictions Have Been Lifted

California removed its coronavirus tier system June 15, allowing anyone to visit the parks. Capacity, social distancing and mask requirements have also been lifted by the state for outdoor areas, although Disneyland "strongly recommends that all guests be fully vaccinated or obtain a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the theme parks."

Those who aren't fully vaccinated must keep wearing a mask in indoor areas, but Disneyland will not ask for proof of vaccination. Instead, guests will be asked to "self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry."

Masks will be required on public transportation shuttles.

Reservations Required

There won’t be a way for guests to just stop by and make an unplanned visit. Though capacity limits have been lifted, attendance will be managed through a new park reservation system. Guests will need to obtain a reservation for park entry in advance and have a valid admission ticket for the same park on the same date. Theme park reservations may be limited and subject to availability.

Fireworks Are Back

Disney is gradually bringing back more beloved park experiences.

A Disney tradition since 1957, fireworks shows are what Walt Disney called the perfect “kiss goodnight” at the close of a magical day, and this summer the skies above Disney theme parks will sparkle with color once more.

The fun starts July 4 with “Mickey’s Mix Magic” presented nightly throughout the summer. State-of-the-art projections, show lighting and lasers will transform Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle and the façade of “it’s a small world” into a dazzling, family fun dance party.

Park Hours

Daily park hours for Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park are currently 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. If you have a park reservation and ticket, Disneyland will allow you to access the virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance from wherever you are at 7 a.m. that day.

Visit Disneyland.com for operating hours on the day you wish to visit, as they are subject to change.

Ways to Save on Disneyland Admission

Southern California CityPASS® tickets are a great way to save on admission to Disneyland® Resort, and other major family-friendly attractions in the Golden State. The Southern California CityPASS® program lets visitors create and save on individualized, build-your-own ticket packages to Disneyland® Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood™, SeaWorld® San Diego, LEGOLAND® California Resort, San Diego Zoo® and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
