Destination: Seattle Center to see the Space Needle with a six- and an eight-year old on a glorious Pacific Northwest day. They’re so excited about visiting the Space Needle for the first time that from the moment they spot it on approach from the freeway, there’s no containing their glee. Leaping from the car, they detour only to climb giant colorful sculptures. Makes for some pretty fun photos, too.
A Space Needle lesson over lunch
We arrive at the Space Needle entrance waving our CityPass booklets, ready for the observation level. However, I’ve told the kids about the Space Needle restaurant’s signature space age dessert, so we make an immediate descent from the deck to the restaurant. The views, the turn (a one-half-horsepower motor that makes the massive restaurant revolve was interesting only to Edward), the fact they could leave a note on the window sill and slowly spin back to it.
Space Needle restaurant's astonishing Lunar Orbiter dessert
Well, it was all too grand. They could hardly stay in their seats, returning to the windows to peer down, allowing their bodies to slowly tilt as the floor moved, clinging to their spot at the window.
