Aquarium of the Bay

• Learn about San Francisco Bay in Discover the Bay. This gallery highlights animals that are commonly found closest to the shore and near San Francisco docks where fish tend to be juvenile and smaller. Here, guests will find moray eels, juvenile swell sharks, and bright orange Garibaldi, the marine state fish of California. Guests can also learn about some critical issues facing San Francisco Bay in the gallery, including marine debris and plastic pollution, and about the critical importance of Marine Protected Areas.
• Experience the Aquariumʼs largest and most iconic exhibit area, Under the Bay, featuring two-massive tunnels that total 300 feet in length, holding more than 700,000 gallons of carefully maintained water from San Francisco Bay, they are home to more than 200 species of animals. As you enter, step into “Go With the Flow,” a tranquil environment featuring 5 species of mesmerizing sea jellies.
• Walk through the Near Shore exhibit tunnel, which represents animals found in areas of the Bay that are 10-15 feet deep, like the giant sea bass, a rainbow-colored rockfish, swirling schools of anchovies, and many more species.
• See the newest aquatic additions to the Aquarium, the Pacific spiny lumpsuckers, in the Cephalpod Gallery. Other animals that can be found in this gallery include red octopus, sailfin sculpin, spot prawns, and wolf eels.
• Catch a glimpse of the Bayʼs largest predator, the sevengill shark, in the Sharks of Alcatraz Tunnel. This tunnel represents animals from the deeper waters of San Francisco Bay, such as bat rays, skates and sturgeons, and multiple species of sharks
• Learn about the effects of climate change in the Bay Lab, featuring land-dwelling animals serving as ambassadors for climates around the world.
• Encounter the amusing antics of the Aquarium's furriest residents, North american river otters, in River Otters: Watershed Ambassadors. Watch river otters romping, swimming, sleeping, and playing in a serene environment that combines land and water habitats, guests can learn all about these adorable animals during special presentations, feedings, and trainings led byAquarium biologists. This gallery helps teach the public about the importance of the health and conservation of the rivers, streams, and other watersheds that flow into the San Francisco Bay.

• See the world-famous sea lions seasonally at PIER 39's K-Dock.
• Visit the Events Calendar prior to your visit to learn special presentation and feeding times on your travel dates.
• Aquarium of the Bay does not validate parking at the PIER 39 Garage, but many PIER 39 restaurants do.
• To get the full experience, allow one to two hours for your visit. If you're short on time, don't miss the underwater tunnels.
