Muni & Cable Car 7-day Passport

The San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni), known to most tourists as the famous Cable Cars, provides transportation to all points of interest within San Francisco. The Muni system operates both diesel and electric trolley buses, historic streetcars and the world famous Cable Cars. The historic streetcars run on the F Market Line, and the metro streetcars (light rail vehicles) run underground in the Market Street subway and on the surface to outlying areas. Look on the back of each CityPass attraction ticket for information on how to get there using Muni.

A valid CityPass entitles the bearer to SEVEN consecutive days of unlimited, FREE use of all Muni services. THE PASSPORT IS VALID ON ALL MUNI VEHICLES INCLUDING CABLE CARS. Without CityPass, a single one-way ride on a Cable Car costs $5 and a single one-way ride on a Muni bus costs $1.50.

Muni stops are clearly marked in San Francisco. Here are three of the most famous cable car stops: The Powell Street Cable Car turnaround, at Market Street, adjacent to the San Francisco Visitor Center—this is a colorful, street scene but expect a line during summer and weekends. California Street at Drumm Street outside the Hyatt Regency—has a stop that delivers visitors to Justin Herman Plaza for an al fresco lunch and the Ferry Building’s indoor year round Farmer’s Market. From there, take a light rail F line to PIER 39. A great photo and video opportunity for cable cars is the stop at the top of Lombard Street, the world’s crookedest street. No, the cable cars don’t go down it, but you can walk down on foot.
