Seven tips for Disneyland with little kids

Fall is a great time to visit Disneyland with Southern California CityPass, especially if you’re not restricted by the school calendar. The crowds have thinned a bit, making it easier for young visitors to see more fantasy landscape, and fewer kneecaps. Lines for rides are shorter. The weather is perfect. Parents have more breathing space too.

Southern California CityPass contains one-day admission to SeaWorld San Diego, the San Diego Zoo or San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, Universal Studios Hollywood, and a 3-Day Disneyland® Resort Park Hopper® Bonus Ticket, which gives you back-and-forth admission between Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure® Park.

It’s CityPass, so you save a bundle. An adult ticket is $247 (a $359 value); tickets for kids 3-9 cost $199 (a $299 value).

CityPass has a few tips for the Disney portion of your vacation:

  1. Plan to arrive at Disneyland® Park early one morning. Magic Morning is included with your CityPass ticket, which allows early entrance one hour before the Park’s regular schedule on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. Rides operate early in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland -- famous for Cinderella’s Castle.
  2. Character meals are the perfect way to introduce the littlest Disney fans to Ariel, Disney Princesses, Lilo & Stitch, Goofy, Chip n’ Dale, and other characters, at breakfast, brunch or dinner, at a variety of locations. Make reservations via Disney Dining Line, (714) 781-3463.
  3. Don’t worry about rousing a drowsy child as you move between parks. Rented strollers, with their big wheels, sun canopy, and room for souvenirs, are now permitted to “park hop” between Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure.
  4. Ask a Disney cast member for a Rider Switch pass if you have wee ones that are just too short for some rides. One adult enjoys the attraction while the other waits with the child, then the waiting adult can switch places without having to wait in line again.
  5. At Disney’s California Adventure, the Pixar Play Parade at 5:15 p.m. is exciting for the littlest visitors. Ratoutille, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Cars characters dance along, with music, bubbles and acrobats.
  6. The Baby Center is located at the end of Main Street, USA and has bottle warming, changing and feeding areas. A training potty and baby sundries are available.
  7. Kids under 6 are allowed to wear Disney costumes in the park. Let them enjoy the park as Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Woody, or their favorite character!

Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure are great fun for kids and parents. Book your fall getaway now!
