What’s New at the Disneyland Resort – Disney’s 2011 lineup promises both undersea and interstellar adventures, as well as a Soundsational parade.
Disney imagineers and crew are busy adding the finishing touches to several fantastic experiences scheduled to debut in early summer at the Disneyland Resort. Here’s a quick look at what 2011 has in store.
Ariel’s Undersea Adventure (Disney California Adventure Park) — Inspired by the Disney film The Little Mermaid, this new ride combines cutting-edge special effects with “good, old-fashioned theatrical storytelling” to immerse visitors in the movie’s plot, music and characters. After boarding clamshell-shaped cars, visitors will dive below the waves to meet Ariel’s friends Flounder and Sebastian, travel through the evil Ursula’s lair, and descend into Ariel’s Grotto, where an audio-animatronic Ariel will serenade guests with the song Part of Your World. Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is located in the Paradise Pier area of Disney California Adventure Park.
Goofy’s Sky School (Disney California Adventure Park) — Also opening in the Paradise Pier section of the California Adventure Park is Goofy’s Sky School. Under the madcap tutelage of flight instructor Goofy, this classic “wild mouse” roller coaster takes budding pilots on flying lessons filled with twists, turns and wacky antics.
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue (Disneyland Park) — Star Tours, temporarily grounded for reimagining, will soon reopen in Disneyland Park’s Tomorrowland. Frequent fliers will be pleased to hear that the Star Tours travel company has opened new interstellar routes in the Star Wars galaxy. Now, not only will guests zip to other intergalactic destinations, they’ll do so in thrilling 3-D! Star Wars creator George Lucas worked with Disney to create the new storyline, which includes a trip through the skies of Coruscant aboard a Starspeeder 1000 and a high-speed pod race through the desert canyons of Tatooine, Luke Skywalker’s home planet.
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade (Disneyland Park) — Described as “the most foot-stomping, infectious festival of music you’ve ever seen — or heard,” Mickey’s Soundsational Parade will premiere in Disneyland Park this year. Focusing on Disney’s treasure trove of beloved melodies, both live musicians and Disney characters will play instruments and encourage members of the crowd to join in on their giant jam session. The parade’s official description also promises that “lively dancers will stomp out rhythms as a syncopated drum line, twinkling cymbals, steel drums and more entertain guests with sensational sounds.”
