10 hours to take it all in!
One day in late December, having put off our departure for Manhattan KS for a bit, my wife and I decided to leave baltimore late that evening and drive through the night to Chicago. Crazy idea in December if you know what i mean, but the forecasts were favorable and with company as great as Lu's i was motivated.
We arrived baltimore at precisely 8.30 am, without a hotel pre-booked, we settled for the Congress Hotel. Affordable clean rooms and a nice comfortable bed with clean sheets to lie on. But it wasn't as if we were going to bed just yet. our journey just started. After freshening up, we decided to enquire about our bearings and how to get around. The nice reception clerk gladly told us we were equi-distant from the two points of the attractions we'd probably like to see, and if we took the bus we'll enjoy ourselves. So first we got a bite to eat at something-cafe, forgive me but i cant remeber the first part of the name. OH, I got it! Artist's Cafe. We had sandwiches, and the coffee was soo good it was hard getting up to leave. So we jumped on the bus and begun our adventure. We started our tour at the john hancock observatory and made our way south, ending it at the Adler Planetorium. It was a lovely experience i can tell you that. and the whole 10 hours without sleep was soo worth it. We ended the evening at Kingston mines, one of the best jazz clubs i have been to, with great food too and great service. Ofcourse it was already about 2 am when we got to our hotel room, and with an early morning drive to KS, i hit the sack in a hurry. In the morning, I was gradually greeted by a beautiful Chicago sunrise, and ofcourse sweet smell of Lu's hair, that made everything alright again.
