In Response to Toronto Sightseeing - Possible in 1 Day??:
As an Au Pair I have a low budget. So I decided to travel with Megabus from NYC to Toronto. I know the journey is very long and it's going to be exhausting. But I wanna make the impossible possible. I don't have that much time so I'm going to arrive at 8am at Toronto and I will leave at 11pm. So do you have any suggestions how to survive one day and see as much as possible with the city pass? I know I could spend much much more time at the zoo or science museum. but it has to work out in just ONE DAY so most things are closing around 4 and 5pm. so I think it's not that bad to do the CN Tower after the other attractions. I'm happy for any ideas, sugesstions and comments. Thanks. Posted by Victoria0212
As someone who recently went to Toronto and used the CityPass just over a month ago, I can tell you it is really difficult to fully enjoy all the attractions in just one day. If you insist on seeing all the CityPass attractions in one day, it might be possible but only if you stay at each one for about an hour and then leaving to the next one (with the exception of the CN Tower which closes late at night so you can spend more time there). You have to factor in the time to get to each attraction, traffic, getting lost, and time to eat. So I'd say go to each attraction for one hour, then factor one hour for getting to the next destination, etc. Use Google Maps to plot out the most efficient route. Write out your itinerary detailing the times and directions. While you're at it, perhaps you can also plan where you want to eat so you don't go scavenging for food.
If I were you, I'd skip the Toronto Zoo (which is really far off the city proper) and the Ontario Science Centre (which I feel is more geared for kids and it's also a bit of a travel away from the city proper). I highly recommend Casa Lomas especially if you go between now until Fall because their garden is in season right now where you can see really beautiful flowers. I think if you go to Casa Lomas, ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), and CN Tower would already make up for what you paid for the CityPass. I would suggest starting off with Casa Lomas since they open the earliest (9:30am), explore there for 2 to 3 hours (we took 4 to 5 hours with the free audio tour), you can have lunch at the restaurant there if you want or eat cheap at McDonald's across the street from the ROM, then head to the ROM and stay there as long as you want or until they close at 5:30pm. After ROM, head to CN Tower and enjoy the view and film/ride for however long you like (I think we were there for maybe 2 hours). Heading back to your Megabus terminal you should pass by Eaton Centre. It's a very big and famous mall with a really huge food court. You can hang around there and grab dinner before walking back to the bus terminal to catch your ride back.

I think Elizabeth's suggestion is probably the most reasonable and enjoyable one - it's a shame to miss the zoo, but it is rather far out from the other attractions, and you still get the authentic Toronto experience if you visit the sites she listed below, without feeling too rushed between them. At the CN tower, you get a pass to one attraction - the Skypod or 3D movie - and I highly recommend the movie/ride experience. It was like a simulator, and lots of fun! Be sure to bring a warm hoodie or jacket because if you go onto the outside platform at the top of the tower, it can get rather chilly!

Victoria0212, I am a Toronto resident and would reccomend all of the Toronto CityPass attractions. There is no way you would be able to enjoy all of them in one day. Elisabeth's suggestion to leave out the zoo makes good since. It is located at least an hour drive from downtown Toronto, where the other attractions are. Enjoy your time in the ROM and CN Tower and other attractions in the City. But the next time you get to Toronto, you should see the zoo. You can easilly spend the entire day there as it is quite large and would take you that much time to get around.
Good luck. Welcom to T.O! |

I would say Casa Loma is either a hit or a miss depending on what you're looking for. It's a castle with nothing much around it. The gardens are nice when they are in bloom but if you're looking for something else, I'd say skip it & walk the streets of downtown - Kensington, Chinatown, Yonge/Dundas, Yorkdale. Then again if you're from NYC, maybe you're trying to get away from all of that & a park setting is what you're looking for. Google map everything so then you can spend your time wisely.
Another great tip is to buy a TTC day pass which allows you unlimited access one the TTC for one day. You won't need to worry about finding exact change or fumbling for money everytime. If you get tired, you can jump on the streetcar for a few stops or one the subway. It's all good. Enjoy :) |

my advice is to visit the main attractions, and save the CN tower for the late afternoon/evening so you can see it during the daytime and perhaps after the sun sets. Walking around the inner city is also fantastic, and just pick two or three citypass attractions you really want to see, and leave the rest for next time. |
