CityPass, Inc. Company Profile

This is CityPass

CityPass® is the company known for showcasing North America's most exciting cities by assembling ticket booklets of the most-visited attractions in New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Hollywood, Southern California and Toronto, Canada. Convenience, value, and consistency have made CityPass a popular choice by sightseeing travelers.

CityPass allows marquee destinations to spotlight their premier attractions in a way that draws people throughout the city, to witness its neighborhoods, streetscapes and energy while encouraging the use of public transportation. Insider tips advise the best time to visit or cameo not to miss activities. Booklets represent savings of up to 50% less than if the tickets were purchased separately.

The Creators

The idea for CityPass came from the association of Mike Gallagher and Mike Morey through their respective backgrounds in attraction management and tourism and attraction market research. They felt the major attractions in a city could be marketed as a package via a single price ticket booklet which offered consumers a significant discount. With their mutual contacts in San Francisco and Seattle, they launched the CityPass programs in these two cities the summer of 1997. In 2005, Gallagher and Morey received the prestigious “Entrepreneur of the Year” award from the California Travel Industry Association.

The Concept

The CityPass concept is simple. Reduced admission is offered for a select collection of the most-visited attractions; an attraction that may lead a visitor to a new or lesser-known but equally interesting cultural experience is often included. Venues and attractions are selected to exceed visitor expectations for a rich view and flavor of each particular destination. Rather than pepper the visitor with a barrage of tickets and mini-offers that will never be used, CityPass concentrates on the most popular, limiting its attractions to no more than six per city. Viewing towers or waterfront cruises are included when appropriate. Art museums, science centers, zoos, themed attractions and historical attractions are featured.

When CityPass customers have used the booklets, they have really seen the city. They have likely used public transportation, strolled the streets, enjoyed neighborhood restaurants and, perhaps, viewed more art, history, science and urban culture than they thought they could afford, because CityPass saves time and money.

99% of our customers would recommend CityPass to others — In an independent survey of 847 CityPass users who were asked, “Would you recommend the purchase of a CityPass?”, 99% said, “Yes, I would.”

Destination Marketing Organizations Applaud CityPass

In every city, the local convention and visitor bureau (CVB) or tourism office has been an important partner. Those public organizations are essential in communicating with destination attractions, assisting in the launch, and continuing to share the message of value to consumers. In many cases, CityPass is made available to media in press kits, providing writers' first-hand experience with the attractions. Depending on the city, CityPass is available for sale at visitor centers and always at the ticket box office of each of the included attractions.

CityPass considers interest expressed by other cities for possible future programs throughout the year. New cities are typically launched in the spring, to the greatest benefit of the destination and its attractions.

How CityPass Works

CityPass booklets are purchased at one of the featured attractions and visitor centers. Booklets and e-tickets can be pruchased online at www.citypass.com.

CityPass ticket holders skip most main entrance ticket lines, except in unusual cases such as the lack of a separate members desk or where entrance capacity is limited, e.g., Empire State Building Observatory's high speed elevator. Many museums and attractions display the CityPass logo at the member desk or a separate area, for immediate admission. Other attractions' customer service personnel, upon seeing the CityPass booklet, will invite CityPass ticket holders to a quicker entrance.

Agents remove that attraction's ticket and the visitor is admitted. On first presentation, the booklet will be stamped to establish the valid period, which is specified, by city, from first use. Tickets removed by other than the attraction ticket agent become void.

Each ticket in the booklet contains detailed information about the attraction, including hours, location, directions, and an Insider Tips … best time to visit or other tidbits … to make the most of time spent in the city and at CityPass attractions.
