AMNH is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. Since its founding in 1869, the Museum has advanced its global mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Museum is renowned for its exhibitions and scientific collections, which serve as a field guide to the entire planet and present a panorama of the world's cultures.

Rose Center for Earth and Space

The direct entrance to the Frederick Phineas & Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space is on the north side of the Museum on West 81st Street, just west of Central Park West.

Access is also available through the Museum from Central Park West at 79th Street.

Hayden Planetarium Space Show

Now playing, Journey to the Stars, is narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg. Tour familiar stellar formations, explore new celestial mysteries, and discover the fascinating, unfolding story that connects us all to the stars.

Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins

The newly opened Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins presents the remarkable history of human evolution from our earliest ancestors millions of years ago to modern Homo sapiens.

The innovative Spitzer Hall combines the most up-to-date discoveries in the fossil record with the latest in genomic science to explore the most profound mysteries of humankind: who we are, where we came from, and what is in store for the future of our species.

Fossil Halls

One of the premier attractions in New York City is the Museum's series of fossil halls, including its two famed dinosaur halls.

The Museum is home to the world's largest collection of vertebrate fossils, totaling nearly one million specimens.
