Amazing Introduction to Houston
After a long day in airports, we arrived at the amazing Hotel Indigo in Houston (I cannot say enough good things about this hotel, hands-down the best accomodations I've ever stayed in and the service was unbelieveable), dropped off our bags, and headed out in search of food. I had purchased a Groupon to a nearby eatery The Live Oak Bar & Grill, so we drove over to check it out. At first glance it looked closed, but we ventured forth to find that it was just a quiet Monday night. The lovely lady working the bar greeted us with total warmth and friendliness and raced to the back to make sure the cook still had the grill on. We sat up at the bar, and chatted with her about whatever random topics came up. We were shocked at how friendly she was! Just as our delicious bacon cheeseburgers arrived (Order the onion rings! And the Watermelon Kamikaze!), two other gentlemen walked in and sat up at the bar. After a few moments it became clear they were regulars, as the jokes and stories between them and the bartendress started flying. One had lived in the area all his long life and the other was a local police detective, so you can imagine they had some interesting stories to tell! We all cracked jokes and chatted the evening away, and even got a great recommendation for a mouthwatering roadside bbq joint that we visited the next day (Lyndon's Pit BBQ, best brisket ever!). It was the perfect start to our first visit to Texas, getting to eat some fantastic food and laugh it up with some colorful local characters. It really kicked off the vacation in the best way!
