Whiskey stones from SFMOMA

Four Beverage-Themed Stocking Stuffer Ideas

by city'zen on November 25, 2009

I’m gathering ideas for stocking stuffers from museums and attractions. If you live in a city, you can nip into the museum gift shop without admission; if you’re visiting, and you’re like me, you want to pick up things that will tuck in your suitcase — and  survive TSA and airline luggage handlers.

Just right for the fizzy time of year, here’s a short list of petite gift ideas:

  1. Atlanta’s World of Coca-Cola has a retro wall-mount Coca-Cola bottle opener ($7.99).  It’s inevitable: Beverages that require an opener always show up at a barbecue.  Mount near outdoor grill.
  2. New York’s Museum of Modern Art’s giant Japanese ice ball tray ($16.00).  Mixologists claim one big ice ball is superior to lots of lesser cubes when a beverage goes on-the-rocks.  Who am I to argue?  And I bought two; one for me, one to give.
  3. Seattle Space Needle snowglobe wine stopper is so cute ($10).
  4. Whiskey stones from San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art are a startling and memorable alternative to ice cubes ($60).  No danger of diluting any beverage with these chillers.
