Statue of Liberty & Ellis IslandA close-up of Lady Liberty and a compelling look inside U.S. immigrants’ stories await you at the Statue of Liberty National Monument and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Ellis Island Immigration Station processed more than 12 million immigrant steamship passengers while in operation until 1954, when it ceased operations. Today, over 40 percent of America's population can trace their ancestry through Ellis Island. STATUE OF LIBERTY & ELLIS ISLAND VIDEO:STATUE OF LIBERTY & ELLIS ISLAND ADMISSION USING CITYPASS INCLUDES:Admission for one to board a Statue Cruises boat, ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island, disembarking at each island, and, after exploring each to your satisfaction, return aboard a Statue Cruises boat to your starting point at either Battery Park in NY or Liberty Park in NJ. On Liberty Island, you may tour the grounds; there are many good vantage points to view and photograph the Statue of Liberty. On Ellis Island, tour the grounds and examine the exhibits and genealogical resources within the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. A Pedestal/Museum Access Pass – which is required to enter the Statue of Liberty pedestal – is not included in CityPass admission. Pedestal/Museum Access is free and available at all Statue Cruises’ ticket windows, including the Prepaid ticket window, on a first come-first served basis, to a limited number of early birds each day. INSIDER TIPS:Allow at least 2 hours to visit one island and 5 hours to visit both islands. Expect to pass though airport level security prior to boarding the ferry. For more information about the security regulations at Liberty Island and in the Statue of Liberty please see security screening details on Statue Cruises' Web site. You may bring a picnic lunch to either island. Large coolers are not allowed past security; no food or beverages are allowed within the Statue of Liberty.
HOURS:Box office opens at 8:30 a.m. First boat departs at 8:30 a.m. from Memorial Day weekend though Columbus Day and 9:30 a.m. the rest of the year from both Battery Park and Liberty State Park. Boats depart throughout the day every 30 to 45 minutes. Last monument entry is at 4:30 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend though Columbus Day and 3:30 p.m. the rest of the year. Closed Christmas Day

There is plenty of paid parking at Liberty State Park. This is a good departure location for you if you have a car. Take New Jersey turnpike, exit 14-B follow signs to Liberty State Park. Insider Tip: Consider taking a water taxi from NY to Liberty State Park, NJ where the ticket and security lines tend to be shorter. The water taxi is only $7 one way and is a fun 10 minute ride. If you're between age seven and 12 and would like to take part in the Junior Ranger Program, ask for a free booklet of activities at the information center. Answer all the questions in the booklet when you visit the monument and you can earn a Junior Ranger Badge! This activity booklet will take you though the Immigration Station where you will learn the importance of protecting and preserving this National monument. |
